Mount Kilimanjaro
7 Days
From US$ 2,250
Overview
Londorosi/Shira is nearly identical to the Lemosho route. In fact, this was the original route and Lemosho is the improved variation. Although Shira is a varied and beautiful route, it is less favorable than its successor due to the relatively high altitude of Shira’s starting point, which is accessed quickly by vehicle. It is possible that climbers will experience some altitude related symptoms on the first day while camping at 11,800 feet.
The route approaches Mount Kilimanjaro from the west, beginning with a long drive from Arusha to Shira Ridge. The vehicle bypasses the rain forest zone and the hiking trail begins on Shira Ridge.
The Londorossi route connects Kilimanjaro’s western highlands, providing a unique and quiet pathway to the summit. The longer, less traveled route might be ideal for travelers who want more peace and natural surroundings. Starting from the Londorossi gate, you will be taken by vehicle to the starting altitude of the Shira Plateau and will avoid hiking from the lower rainforest zone. This option will provide you with the high altitude early on in your trek and will give the company important acclimatization time from day one.
